建造這些攔砂壩的原因主要是防止水壓驟升，為了減少水流的流體動力，在它順流而下時阻斷大量水流，其目的是為了保護下面的小鎮，免於山波滑坡意外，同時也保護荖濃溪避免遭受更嚴重的侵蝕
The purpose of these dams are hydraulic jumps meant to reduce the kinetic energy of the water as it flows down the river, and block large debris flows. The goal is to protect the villages downriver from landslides, and also Laonong River from further erosion.
